135th KCS General Meeting Welcome Message

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my great honor and pleasure to welcome all my fellow chemists and participants to the 135th General Meeting of the Korean Chemical Society (KCS) to be held at the Suwon Convention Center from April 23 (Wed) to 25 (Fri), 2025. I believe this KCS meeting will serve as a great opportunity for Korean and international scholars from all branches of chemistry to gather and discuss new advances and innovations made in the field of chemistry.

As the plenary lecturer, we have invited Dr. Jong Sung Koh, CEO of Genosco Inc. and Sheldon Emery Professor Eric Jacobsen at Harvard University. They will give a lecture on “Targeted Lung Cancer Therapy Using Irreversible Inhibitors in the Era of Precision Medicine” and “Privileged Chiral Catalysts: Selectivity and Generality in Enantioselective Catalysis”, respectively.

I am pleased to announce that KCS-ACS Publications Summit will be given by the Editors-in-Chief of two journals, Professor Christopher J. Chang (Acc. Chem. Res.) and Professor Jiaxing Huang (Acc. Mater. Res.) and associate editors, Professor So-Jung Park and Professor Sang Hoon Joo (ACS App. Mate. Interfaces) at the 135th General Meeting of the KCS. They will discuss “The Molecules and Materials Beyond”, entitled “Activity-Based Sensing: Leveraging Chemical Reactivity to Decipher Biology at the Atomic Scale”, entitled “Nanowire Network for Metal Protection Against Corrosion and Arc Erosion”, entitled “Dynamic Nanostructures through Self-Assembly of Nanoparticles and Functional Polymers”, and entitled “Atomically Dispersed Metal Catalysts Steering Selective Electrocatalysis”, respectively. In addition, Professor Chulbom Lee of Seoul National University will give an award lecture, entitled “Complex Natural Products and Catalysis”, as the recipient of this year’s KCS Academic Excellence Award. In addition, Hyeon Suk Shin of Sungkyunkwan University will give an award lecture, entitled “Hexagonal and Amorphous Boron Nitrides for Quantum and Energy Applications”, as the recipient of Man Jung Han Academic Excellence Award. In this KCS meeting, we have prepared BKCS Symposium, entitled “The Future of Korean Chemistry”, IBS Symposium, entitled “Advanced Molecular Spectroscopy and Imaging”, JKCS Symposium, entitled “JKCS Research Trends of Young Researchers”, and Chemical Safety Symposium, entitled “Chemical Safety in Laboratory Education”.

Also, APEC Young Chemistry Leaders’ Forum will be held during the KCS meeting. This forum serves as a unique platform for young scientists, Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers, who will shape the future of chemistry in the APEC region. Under the theme “Embracing a New Era of Digital Transformation in Chemistry,” we come together to share ideas, present groundbreaking research, and build the foundations for deeper cooperation in this rapidly evolving scientific landscape.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bioneer, Ligachembioscience, Dongwoo Fine-Chem, Shimadzu Scientific Korea, i-SENS, and YS Life Science, who have been a sponsor of the KCS. Finally, I extend my gratitude to all KCS members and participants of this KCS meeting. I look forward to welcoming you all in Suwon!
